This last week Candice talked with Entertainment Tonight with the pros of the two Caroline ships – Steroline and Klaroline.
It’s good to be bad – but it’s even better when you’re a vampire.
This season on The Vampire Diaries, fans have finally witnessed a Mystic Falls first: Caroline “Goody Two Shoes” Forbes as a blood-thirsty, uber-bitchy, humanity-less vampire — and we are absolutely loving it!
Caroline’s reign of terror continues on tonight’s all new episode, so we sat down with Candice Accola to get the inside scoop on what’s next.
Plus, we asked the blonde beauty to weigh the good and the bad between two of the series’ most beloved ‘ships: Steroline and Klaroline — and you won’t believe which couple came out on top!
Entertainment Weekly shared a blog by Candice where she talks about last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, “Because”
The actress pays homage to the crew after an intense episode.
In The Vampire Diaries’ six seasons, the best character transformation has debatably belonged to Caroline Forbes, who went from high school cheerleader to kickass vampire and hasn’t looked back. Ever wonder what Candice Accola, the actress who plays Caroline, thinks about the emotional, hilarious, whatever they may be—but always very Caroline—moments she gets to act out? So did we. So EW has given Accola the space to share her thoughts each week about what’s going on in the episode and behind the scenes. This, week she breaks down Thursday’s episode, “Because.”
Episode 619, “Because,” was a special episode not only for Caroline, but for myself as well. It is a privilege to work on a series for six seasons—it’s not the long hours of filming I’ll look back on, but the bonds that are formed with the people I’ve filmed with. Episode 619 was directed by a TVD family member, whom I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside since the beginning: our camera operator-turned-director Mr. Geoff Shotz. Geoff has filmed some of Caroline’s biggest moments and I couldn’t help but grow a little sentimental that he was behind the camera directing this episode.
My entire storyline in “Because” practically took place in one room, which meant we shot almost 4 days in a row, in a singular space, for at least 12 hours a day. Talk about together time!
As an actor, attention can be easy to come by. But stepping onto the set of a television series, you quickly realize who is deserving of the real praise: the crew. I was asked by EW.com to tell stories about what happened on set while filming an episode of The Vampire Diaries. Filming this episode, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the true characters that make filming this series possible.
At the start of our day before we roll, Tony, our sssistant director, takes a moment to dedicate the first take to Sarah Jones, a forever member of our TVD family. (Not only can he make you laugh at the drop of a hat, he can also hold a handstand for over a minute—and might be the only person in the world who can beat Julie Plec in a Diet Coke-drinking contest.)
Fans of our series probably have noticed we film a lot of stunts. What they might not know is how many people work together to make a simple stunt happen. For instance, when Damon shoots Caroline with a vervain gun, we filmed a take solely of my reaction before falling onto a stunt mat held by Brett, who was crouching next to me off-camera. We then filmed a take where Greg Oliver, in special effects, provided custom vervain darts to be perfectly placed. With a little help from our amazing editors in Los Angeles, we have a surprise vervain shot! It truly takes a village.
Luckily, we have a kick-butt village—including Jessica, my stunt double who literally kicked down a wooden door to make me look like a badass; Joe Connelly, in our prop department, who designed breakaway wooden shutters that I was able to smash with my “vampire strength;” and our set decorator, who transformed a room that has been shot many times on The Vampire Diaries into a brand-new bed and breakfast set. I wish I could go into detail about every person on our crew and in our production office, but I’d be writing a novel.
My point is: As actors, we get days off. Our crew is there every minute of every shooting day, creating the world that you escape to every Thursday night.
You might not find this to be all that special, but when you’re locked in various rooms with the same group of people for six years, you realize just how special all of their stories are.
In this episode, Caroline is locked in a room, forced to face her reality. After being locked in that room, facing my own reality, it’s easy to realize how much I love it. That is a testament to all the people who make coming to work such a joy, and who put all their blood, sweat and tears into making magic happen. It is because of you, Atlanta crew, that so many are able to disappear into the world of The Vampire Diaries week after week.
Alaric and Jo reluctantly participate in their bachelor and bachelorette parties. Meanwhile, Elena turns to Bonnie and Jo for advice over Damon’s impulsive offer; Enzo asks Stefan to help Lily who is on a dangerous downward spiral; and Matt gets fed up with the supernatural threats that plague the town and takes his frustration out on Tyler.
I have added captures of Candice from last Thursday’s episode of The Vampire Diaries “I Could Never Love Like That”.
As I am doing work on the gallery to make it complete I have added a bunch of images of Candice as Caroline Forbes from season one of The Vampire Diaries.
As Nina has finished filming The Vampire Diaries she and her castmates have shared pics of her which include pics of Candice … since she is close with both Nina and Kat!
Damon struggles with whether to tell Elena about the cure and talks to her about what life would be like if they weren’t vampires. Meanwhile, Bonnie discovers Damon betrayed her trust; and Enzo learns the truth about the day he was turned into a vampire.

Oh, did you think we forgot about you, Vampire Diaries fans? You tirelessly voted and patiently waited for a reaction after Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) winning TV’s Top Couple of the 2015, and no, your efforts were not in vain. We got Candice Accola in-studio to finally react to being one-half of the small screen’s favorite duo. Spoiler alert: she’s ridiculously adorable.
“It’s awesome! It was really fun to see that because it’s been such a slow-burn for those characters for so many seasons,” Candice says. “As much as you pick up on social media, ‘Oh, I think they’re liking this storyline,’ that put it over the hill and it was really cool! It’s exciting to see that so many people are enjoying the characters’ romantic storyline.”
Despite the couple’s obvious popularity, Candice admits she was “definitely a little bit nervous” once she found out that Stefan and Caroline would be heading toward a romantic relationship, mostly because of two other fan-favorite pairings.
“There’s so many people who loved Stefan and Elena together…and even still to this day, my entire social media feed just says ‘Klaroline,'” she explains, “so I was nervous about how they were going to react, but I think that this means that they like it, which is really good!”
Press play on our exclusive interview with Candice above to hear when she first noticed a romantic chemistry between the characters and why, as a Dawson’s Creek fan, she’s totally OK with Stefan and Caroline being compared to Pacey and Joey! Plus, you’ll get scoop on what’s next for the pairing after their hot humanity-free hookup, one that Candice totally loved.
After Steroline’s huge win, executive producer Julie Plec thanked the fanbase for their support. “From the moment Stefan helped Caroline through her vampire transition in the second episode of season two, a seed was planted in our minds,” she said. “We spent four years delicately caring for it, hoping to slowly earn our way to where we are now. Now we get to have the fun of seeing where it takes us next. We love the passion from the fans, always, whether they support this pairing or not. Thanks for voting.”
Executive producer Caroline Dries added, “I love that our fans can appreciate our desire not to rush relationships, and Stefan and Caroline’s ‘coupling’ is one of those cases.”
The Vampire Diaries airs tonight at 8 p.m. on the CW.
Finally! All of the captures from season six of the Vampire Diaries have been added to the gallery! And just in time for a brand new episode!
So excited that TVD is back this week! Here is the promo for I Could Never Love Like That.
